Difference Between Domain Types
The '.ie' domain type is an Irish domain name and mainly irish businesses and citizens can register them
The '.com' domain type is an international domain name and anyone can register a .com if it is available. There are no requirements to register a .com
Which domain type is correct for your business?
We recommend if your an Irish business and/or you are mainly trading in Ireland or want to identify yourself as Irish related then .ie domains are your best option. Also as there are fewer registered .ie domains than .coms you will have a much better chance that the domain you want is not already registered.
If your looking to trade internationally and do not need to make a clear connection with Ireland then .com might be the domain for you.
What domain name should I register?
Whatever domain type you decide to use make sure you choose a good name itself. Here are some guidelines.
Try to make the domain:
- As short as possible
- As easy to spell as possible
- As related to your business name or product name as possible
- Try avoid using the '-' symbol in the domain name and also try not use plurals
